Which Project?

Weather update: Still raining. Well, not actual rain, but more a mist. Either way, it stinks and I'm beginning to mildew.

Okay, now onto the real post:

Last night, while venting about the rain (grrr...), I mentioned that I have several WIP. In various stages. I haven't even looked at them because when I pick one up and read a few pages, I think, "Y'know, maybe I'll work on XYZ instead."

Then nothing gets done.

It's so much easier when I have only one thing at a time needing work. No question about which project to devote my attention to. No need to worry about "Hmm... maybe I should work on XYZ instead." Unfortunately, my muse doesn't always behave. Sometimes she abandons me completely, and other times, she's throwing so much inspiration at me that it's a wonder I don't drown in it. This is definitely one of the latter problems.

At least when I'm on deadline, I know what will take priority. But, those pesky first edits are finished. In the hands of my editor. My writing time is strictly mine and I don't know how to prioritize books that aren't really books yet. My one historical manuscript is in its fourth revision, but I'm at the point where I need a break from it.

I've recently started two more historicals - one Regency-set, the other is set during the American Revolution. Both require a bit of research, but the Revolutionary War-set book will need much more intense research and I told myself that I wasn't beginning anything new just yet, as there is a lot going on in my life right now. I just don't have the time to devote right now - probably not until the end of the year. So, with that thought in mind, I don't want to get started on anything too time-consuming right now. I'll have enough of that with my next round of edits.

So, that means working on something already on paper.

Which brings me back to my original problem.

So, which project to work on? Okay, both are in their second or third revision - so it's more a matter of tidying up, making sure any plot holes are taken care of, things of that nature. So, why can't I motivate myself to work on them?

I'll just blame it on the weather, I guess...
