It IS July, right?

I've looked at the calendar, and I'm pretty sure I'm on the right page.

It is July, right?

Halfway through July, to be exact.

Right?

Last night, I woke up freezing. And no, the AC was not set very low. It wasn't even on. We had the windows open.

And it was in the 50s.

In mid-July.

WTF?

Last year, we had our pool opened at the beginning of June. Since it was our first time using our pool company, we got the crappiest date for opening (all the good slots were taken by the people who made their appointments when they closed their pools the previous fall.) Throw in about two weeks until the pool was actually ready for swimming (the woman we bought the house from closed the pool and obviously didn't give a damn what condition it was in. To say it was a mess was putting it mildly. Even the pool guys were a bit - ahem- shocked by how murky the pool was.)

Well, by mid-June, 2008, we had almost a month of swim-worthy weather. And we suffered until we could go in the pool. So, when we closed it last October, we made sure to have an opening date of mid-May. That way, we'd be ready for the warm weather.

And we are still waiting for it.

WTF?

It rained for almost all of June. Yay. Like, that didn't suck at all. But then July came and brought us one hell of a surprise.

Absolutely gorgeous weather.

It's been amazing - sunny and almost no humidity (which you never see in NJ in July. Humid is our middle name, come mid-summer.) We've been able to shut the AC off, open the windows, and ahh...

On the other hand - we've had the pool open since mid-May. And have been able to use it about half a dozen times since. That's it.

Such a waste of money and electricity, because we had to have it opened, and then the filter pump went, so that needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the new filter pump is a lot more energy efficient and only has to run for 10 hours a day instead of 12 hours - but still, that's a lot of electricity on a pool that isn't really being used.

**sigh**

But I'm not really complaining. The stickiness has been creeping in all day and it's supposed to be rainy and sticky and blech this weekend. But who knows? Maybe this icky weather will bring in more beautiful, un-New Jersey-like summer weather. I kind of hope so. It's been nice. A few times, I had to remind myself that it was July (it is July, right?) and not late September. I can't remember a summer quite like this one.

It should be interesting to see what August holds.
