Earth Day, 2010

(Google Commemorates Earth Day, 2010)

Happy Earth Day!

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Last year, the Boy brought home a little white pine sapling that he'd gotten in preschool. My clueless landscaper's clueless crew apparently couldn't discern between a weed and a tree, and so weedwhacked it. A week or so later, I noticed the little tree had put out new needles. It would live! Yay!

And so, the landscaper whacked it again.

The little tree did not survive. I was not happy. We did not fire the landscaper (don't ask me why. I wanted to.)

But this year, The Boy was supposed to bring home another little white pine sapling.

However, either he left it at school or on the bus, for he had no tree when he got home today.

He should have one tomorrow. So I will try again. This year, my other half put down all fresh mulch for my new little tree to be planted in. I will make certain the clueless landscaper's clueless crew does not weed whack this one down.

So, in honor of Earth Day, 2010, go plant a tree. Use reusable bags when grocery shopping (I have about a dozen canvas Stop n' Shop bags. I use them every time I go to the store.) Use a steel water bottle instead of plastic. Wash in cold water whenever possible. Run the dishwasher only when it's full. Turn off the lights in empty rooms. It's the little things that add up to a lot.

Happy Earth Day!

Just checking out my shiny new identity. I feel like a super hero. So did you get the sapling?

Yes! It's now planted in the mulch along the deck. If the landscaper whacks it, he's gone. Keep your fingers crossed. :D
