Checking In

I'm still here - just running like crazy. My mom finished up her radiation therapy, but now she's back in the hospital because she's sick as anything. They don't think it's because of the radiation, but they aren't really sure why she's so sick. It doesn't make any sense to anyone. Hopefully we'll have answers real soon.

I'm going through the first edits for Devil in Disguise and my editor is a wonderfully patient woman. She knows what's going on, so at least I don't have that stress.

I may even have a title for Aidrian. Yay! As of right now, it's now titled, Midnight Angel. :D

I'm revising the cover copy and excerpt for Playing with Fire. I hate writing cover copy. It's a skill. I don't haz it. :( Fortunately, my editor does haz it. So this copy will happen. Oh yes, it will.)

I'm in the midst of getting the cover for Tiger Eyes. When I can share it, I will. Promise. :D

Okay, I think that's it - time to finish my coffee, jump into the shower, and trek on up to the hospital.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! :D

Titles and Other Fun Stuff

Sometimes they come and sometimes? Not so much.

I'm having one of those not so much moments right now. My current WIP is the victim of no title coming to me. Blech. I call it "Aidrian" because I can't come up with anything better. Of course, the entire WIP is giving me a headache because the characters just won't cooperate. Really, all they want to do is fool around. Sigh.

I'm still running like crazy - taking my mom to her radiation therapy and various doctors' appointments. She's going for a PET scan this afternoon. But, it looks like she's responding to the therapy, so that's a good thing. A very good thing.

And there was some really wonderful news as well - my brother and his wife welcomed their second child yesterday - a little boy who is absolutely beautiful. Nothing like a new baby to make the world a little brighter, right?

Titles

Every now and again, the perfect title pops into my head before I even have the hero/heroine thought up. Sometimes it happens before I even have a plot. It doesn't happen often, but it does.

Then there are the titles that change as the story progresses, and it's subject to change ten, twenty times before the final draft is finished. That's usually the case with one of my books. When I'm having a really off day, I insert the main character's name as the working title. Sometimes it's the heroine's name, sometimes it's the hero's name. It depends on whose story I'm telling. Tiger Eyes when through three different names (Diego, Gabriella, Tiger's Eyes in that order.)

And sometimes, I find a title I love - and proceed to use it for everything until I have a finished book. Right now, that title is One Wicked Kiss. I just love this title - but have yet to keep it beyond a first or second draft (Tiger Eyes might have even had it at one point.) Someday, it will be a final title. I just don't know when.

But then -

and you knew it was coming right?

there are those times when the perfect title refuses to show itself and I'm left with the dorky crap title I slapped on the manuscript when it was (mostly red inked) first draft.

And the perfect title?

Just.

Won't.

Come.

GAH!

Right now, the manuscript in question is The King's Bride. I hate that title. Hate, hate, Hate it. I hate it so much it isn't even funny.

Trouble is, I can't think of anything better. For months, I've been trying to come up with a better title. Months, I tells ya.

Nuttin'.

Rats.

So, The King's Bride it is, until I think of a better one (HA! I've the distinct feeling that will never happen!)

I envy those who can come up with a title just like that. I envy them the same way I envy those who can write back cover copy that doesn't suck, and a synopsis of under 10 pages.

So with any luck, I'll find that perfect title.

Who knows - maybe it's One Wicked Kiss? ;p
